Öğe Arkeolojik Alanlarda Ziyaretçi Deneyiminin Dijital Teknoloji ile Yeniden Tanımlanması(Seyahat ve Otel İşletmeciliği Dergisi, 15 Agustos) Çağlayan, Deniz Kaplan; Yüce, AliThe profound impact of technological advancements and globalization has become evident across all spheres of life, including the tourism sector. The increasing personalization and interactivity of daily practices have prompted visitors, as consumers of the tourism industry, to seek more enriched and immersive experiences. Within this context, the present study aims to assess the influence of digital technologies on archaeological sites from the visitors’ perspective and to propose strategic recommendations aimed at enhancing visitor experience, engagement and satisfaction. Although existing literature predominantly examines the integration of digital technologies within art museums, exploring this dynamic within the context of archaeological sites introduces a relatively novel conceptual framework. The significance of this research lies in its potential to contribute to the enhancement of visitor experiences in contemporary museum settings while offering conceptual insights that may shape experiential opportunities in future museum practices. To this end, the study undertakes a conceptual evaluation of the impact of digital technologies on visitor experience at the Hagia Sophia History and Experience Museum and the Ephesus Experience Museum. This evaluation is grounded in a literature review focused on the notion of experience and is organized around four primary dimensions: education, aesthetics, escapism, and entertainment. Digital technologies employed in the Hagia Sophia History and Experience Museum and the Ephesus Experience Museum primarily emphasize audio-visual elements. While these technologies successfully foster a sense of escapism, their potential is constrained by the limited integration of Virtual Reality (VR) applications. In particular, the Ephesus Experience Museum, conceived as a purpose-built facility, demonstrates greater efficacy in delivering an immersive escape experience compared to the Hagia Sophia History and Experience Museum, which operates within the constraints of a restored historical building. Despite these strengths, there remains a notable need to enhance the aesthetic, entertainment, and educational dimensions of digital presentations and the surrounding museum environments.Öğe Digital Transformation-Oriented Innovation in Museum Settings via Digital Engagement: Virtual Reality(IGI Global, 2022) Yüce, AliThe digital era has been one of the most popular topics that has drawn a vast amount of attention over the past several decades. Digitalization-oriented innovative approaches to unleash the business potential and improve consumer satisfaction with immersive technologies have been another hot topic among scholars. Although theoretical-based discussion dates back to the 1930s regarding the impact of Virtual Reality, practical aspects of immersive technology are still scant in the current literature. This study proposes several objectives; (a) how advanced immersive technology can revolutionize the accessibility of the museums, (b) how VR technology influences visitors’ motivation, (c) the linkage between VR technology and visit and revisit intentions. Due to the lack of supporting evidence in a museum setting, this chapter also aims to enhance the extant literature by exploring the critical aspects of VR technology. Lastly, this study also intends to come up with constructive, innovative, and creative suggestions for the local and national authorities and museum management teams.Öğe Digital Twins and Sustainable Developments in the Tourism and Hospitality Industry(IGI, 2023) Yüce, AliSince information and communication technologies have had such a profound impact on every part of our lives, the globe has undergone significant transformation. This impact will not only increase productivity and efficiency, but will also have a substantial positive impact on all aspects of sustainable development. Recent developments in technologies that convey dynamic and real-time data, like the digital twin, have the great potential to revolutionize our concept of sustainability in smart manufacturing and monitoring natural resources. With the use of digital twin technology, you may decrease and potentially eliminate possible energy waste, maintenance expenses, and time waste by making quick predictions and taking prompt remedial action during the manufacturing process. This conceptual paper contends that, digital twin can significantly boost an organization's productivity and profitability while enhancing destinations' values, including distinctive natural, cultural, and environmental resources, without endangering the lives of the next generation.Öğe Dissecting Turkey’s Tourism Development Model: A Political Economy Approach(2025) Yüce, AliSince the 1980s, tourism has been employed as a means of economic growth rather as an end, compromising essential resources and disregarding sustainability principles concerning sociocultural values and environmental assets. Many countries have significantly benefited economically from tourism activities due to the ideologically driven paradigm shift, particularly with the adoption of neoliberal policies. However, there is conflicting evidence and assertations in the literature about the success story of tourism-based development strategies. Despite the diversity of discussions, there is limited understanding of the fundamental variables affecting Turkish tourism development plans. Hence, this study systematically and critically analyzes existing literature to enhance the scope, content, and understanding of the theoretical foundations of the tourism development process. This study also provides suggestions and identifies limitations for further research in the domain of tourism.Öğe ICT Pandemic Time Adoption and Immersive Technologies: A Comprehensive Review(IGI-Global, 2022) Yüce, AliThe tourism industry is a driving force for the global economy. Immersive technologies create powerful opportunities for the products and services of the tourism industry. The convergence of tourism products with advanced technology has a notable impact on business growth, lowering the operational marketing and training costs, and finally, remarkably influencing the consumers’ perception of their choice of destinations. Technology is also an essential instrument for the travel and hospitality industry during hard times, such as the novel COVID-19 pandemics, which caused a sudden and sharp interruption in business and private environments. The business owners and labor force have suffered drastically owing to the pandemics. Immersive technologies have vast potential for sectoral growth and present an alternative digitalized tourism environment for all but especially tourism-dependent destinations. Early adopters of advanced technology have had a greater opportunity to recover from the severe economic damages. Yet, there is an urgent need to discover how immersive technologies helped companies survive the pandemic. Hence, it is essential to understand the immersive technology's epistemological aspect to rip the benefits of the technology-enabled marketing solutions and create alternative tourism approaches when faced with unprecedented challenges.Öğe Impact of Technology in Sustainable Tourism Development: Virtual Reality(IGI-Global, 2022) Yüce, AliTourism has been one of the engines powering the thriving economies, leveraging the quality of lives and transforming the people's sociocultural status worldwide. There is no doubt that innovative technologies are critical and significantly efficient for the economies during a hard time and in blossoming times. Moreover, it is also vital to understand and present some essential issues that harm tourism development. Thus, this chapter strives to offer innovative technology-oriented alternative strategies and practical implications to benefit all the stakeholders at the destination and the consumers by focusing on the long-term benefits. This chapter also aims to understand how technology can take a role to stimulate visitors' motivation and behaviour towards a touristic product or a destination.Öğe Role of human capital and emerging technologies to achieve the climate neutrality goals in tourism industry: A review(Springer Nature, 2025) Yüce, AliClimate change poses a significant threat to all life on earth. Climate neutrality has emerged as a crucial objective to ensure the long-term survival of the earth's natural resources. Local and national authorities have implemented recent legislation to mitigate carbon emissions by compensating for alternative methods in many industries. Tourism industry, sometimes referred to as a “industry without chimney” in Turkish, generates a substantial quantity of greenhouse gases, surpassing initial projections. This study focuses on three primary factors: human capital, emerging technology, and climate neutrality. This study examines the impact of human capital and emerging technology on achieving climate neutrality, with a specific focus on the tourism industry. The existing body of research asserts that there is a connection between human capital, developing technology, and achieving climate neutrality. A study report has stated that human capital and developing technology might have both good and negative effects on the ecological system. However, the definition and idea of climatic neutrality necessitate a comprehensive comprehension, taking into account the interconnection with the other characteristics discussed in this work. In addition, despite several studies in the literature on the tourism industry, there has been limited investigation into the relationship between human capital and developing technologies in relation to climate neutrality. This study tries to evaluate and synthesize the relationship between human capital, new technologies, and climate neutrality in a concise manner. In a manner, this review study aims to establish a correlation between three key characteristics by analyzing fundamental texts that are key terms to the ecosystem. Some of the terms mentioned here are sustainability, carbon footprint, tourism industry, and awareness. Furthermore, this study asserts a robust correlation between human capital, developing technologies, and climate neutrality. Finally, the research discusses recommendations as well as theoretical and practical contributions.Öğe The Role of Cultural Heritage in Sustainable Tourism Development: The Case of Istanbul Kalkhedon Region(Geographies Planning Tourism STUDIOS, 2025-06-30) Aydın, Esin Deniz; Yüce, AliThe aim of this study is to investigate the role of cultural heritage in shaping sustainable tourism development in Istanbul’s Kalkhedon (Kadıköy) region. Turkey's unique cultural and historical heritage is inadequately investigated and lacks prioritization in the context of sustainability concerning tourism's appealing aspects. The historical legacy of Kalkhedon is predominantly overlooked due to urbanization and population shifts. The historical ruins of Kalkhedon have largely remained in the shadow of urbanization and population changes throughout the 20th century. Existing literature has explored the relationship between cultural assets and tourism destinations from various perspectives. However, there is a significant gap in research that specifically examines the impact of historical and cultural heritage on sustainable tourism, particularly in regions like Istanbul’s Kalkhedon This study attempts to address the deficiency in existing literature by examining the impact of cultural heritage on sustainable tourism practices and its contribution to the overarching objectives of maintaining the environmental, economic, and socio-cultural integrity of the Kalkhedon region. The research was conducted using a qualitative method and a phenomenological design. Thematic coding was applied to the data collected from in-depth interviews with nine participants, and the analysis was conducted using MAXQDA software. Furthermore, the findings of this study reveal that sustainable tourism not only contributes to economic development but also plays a crucial role in preserving cultural values and raising environmental awareness. Lastly, the study emphasizes the importance of environmental consciousness and local cooperation in sustainable tourism strategies, providing related recommendations.Öğe Transition from Traditional Tourism Destinations to Digital Nomad-Friendly Destinations: A Conceptual Perspective(IGI-Global, 2025) Yüce, AliThe primary objective of this study is to elucidate how destinations ought to be created to provide a more organic and unencumbered environment in which digital nomads can experience comfort, security, and tranquility. Multiple studies demonstrate the influence of smart cities or attractions on tourists. Nevertheless, there is a scarcity of research investigating the effects of digital nomadism on tourism destinations overall, especially with the advantages and obstacles it entails. Thus, the study conducts a conceptual analysis, carefully assessing relevant materials and engaging with the field of tourism. This study employed a hermeneutic methodology to analyze the existing literature, offering diverse perspectives that enhance the current comprehension of the subject. Finally, it is found that the implementation and modification of these technologies do not significantly influence the goals of visitors seeking to enjoy their work while they are on the move.Öğe YEREL TOPLULUKLARIN AŞIRI TURİZME KARŞI DAYANIKLILIĞI VE SÜRDÜRÜLEBİLİR KALKINMAYA ETKİSİ: KUŞADASI ÖZELİNDE NİTEL BİR ARAŞTIRMA(Mezopotamya Disiplinlerarası Çalışmalar Dergisi, 2025) Güzel, Seyfettin; Yüce, AliUzun vadeli sürdürülebilir turizm kalkınma planlarının kısa vadeli ekonomik kazançlara feda edilmesiyle ortaya çıkan aşırı turizm olgusu, sosyokültürel ve doğal varlıkların hızla tükenmesine yol açarak gelecekte yaşayacak tüm canlıların yaşam alanlarını ve turistik faaliyetlerin sürdürülebilirliğini tehdit etmektedir.
