Öğe The Invisible Labour Loops Project as Portal—Framing Mother Labour through Animation(Kapadokya Üniversitesi Yayınları, 2024) McGowan, JenJen McGowan is an artist, educator, and mother living in the unceded Coast Salish territory currently known as Vancouver, Canada. She holds a BFA from Concordia University and is a recent graduate of the MFA program at Emily Carr University. She has a Secondary Art BEd from UBC and has taught Animation, Film, and Art at a Public Secondary School for 15 years. In her interdisciplinary practice, she allows each project to determine the choice of medium and often repurposes the discarded material detritus of caregiving. Her work navigates maternal experience and the socio-political systems that weigh upon it.Öğe Holding On and Letting Go: Material, Grief, and Care(Kapadokya Üniversitesi Yayınları, 2024) Eaton, AlexandryaAlexandrya Eaton is a contemporary Canadian artist whose practice involves painting, textiles, and performance. Eaton has had over fifty solo exhibitions of her work and her paintings can be found in numerous public and private collections across Canada and internationally. Eaton’s research investigates alternative ways of knowing and examines how matrilineal connections can be restructured by incorporating traditional textile practices into her painting practice as a bodily form of memory, reaffirming matrilineal kinship relationships through making. Eaton earned her MFA from Emily Carr University of Art & Design in 2024.Öğe Grief Ecologies(Kapadokya Üniversitesi Yayınları, 2024) sun, prOphecyprOphecy sun (PhD) is an interdisciplinary performance artist, queer, movement, video, sound maker, and mother of three. Her practice celebrates both conscious and unconscious moments and the vulnerable spaces of the in-between in which art, performance, and life overlap. Her recent research has focused on ecofeminist perspectives, co-composing with voice, objects, surveillance technologies, and site-specific engagements along the Columbia Basin region and beyond. She is the Arts Editor for Ecocene: Cappadocia Journal of Environmental Humanities and a sessional faculty member at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. Focusing on decolonial imaginaries, planetary thought, and ecopoetics, his work contributes to the emerging field of decolonial planetary ecologies. In South Africa, only 10% of all waste materials are recycled. Of those, almost 90% are recycled in the informal sector. This article draws on data collected through participant observation and 21 qualitative interviews with participants who work in the informal recycling sector as buyers, sellers, and sorters in the coastal city of Gqeberha in South Africa. Using the concept of ‘weight’ (as physical, economic, and emotional component in the workspace), I explore the ‘material-discursive’ dimensions that shape the participants’ experiences and examine the implications for their bodies and livelihoods. I argue that by recognizing the multifaceted nature of weight and addressing its distinct meanings within the context of informal recycling, it is possible to develop a more holistic view of environmental justice.
