Öğe Effects of adding thoracic spine exercises to routine soccer training on spinal alignment and mobility in professional male soccer players: a randomized controlled study(12 March 2026) Bayram, Kazım; Kaya Özer, DeryaBackground Thoracic spine mobility is essential for trunk stability, rotational movement, and athletic performance in soccer players. This study aimed to investigate whether the addition of a six-week thoracic spine exercise program to routine soccer training affects sagittal thoracic alignment, segmental spinal mobility, and thoracic rotation in professional male football players, compared with routine training alone. Methods In this parallel-group randomized controlled trial, 42 professional male soccer players (mean age 20.85 ± 3.41 years) were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to either the exercise or control group (n = 21/group). The exercise group performed thoracic spine exercises three times per week for six weeks in addition to their routine training, while the control group continued routine training without receiving any intervention. Pre- and postintervention assessments included spinal alignment and mobility in the sagittal and frontal planes (using the Valedo®Shape system), the Matthias test, and thoracic rotation angles (measured with a smartphone Compass application). Two-way repeated-measures ANOVA and post-hoc tests were used to analyze group (G) × time (T) interactions and within-group changes. Effect sizes (Cohen’s d) were calculated. Results The primary outcome, sagittal thoracic kyphosis angle measured using the Valedo®Shape system, did not demonstrate a significant G × T interaction or T effect, indicating no differential change between groups over the intervention period. As a key secondary outcome, bilateral thoracic rotation angles showed significant G × T interactions, with the exercise group demonstrating substantially greater improvements than the control group. The thoracic spine exercise program demonstrated high feasibility, with 100% participation and no intervention-related adverse events reported. Effect sizes were large for thoracic rotation angles (d = 1.00-1.46) and Matthias test inclination angle (d = 1.42–1.97). Conclusion The six-week thoracic spine exercise program improved spinal alignment, segmental mobility, and thoracic rotation in professional male soccer players. These findings suggest that coaches, sports science specialists, and physiotherapists could consider incorporating thoracic spine exercises into training and rehabilitation programs to support spinal function and optimize athletic performance.Öğe Predictors of Perceived Sports Performance in Female Athletes: The Role of Pelvic Floor Dysfunction and Sleep Quality(25 June 2026) Seçer, Erhan; Çelenay Toprak, Şeyda; Keskin, Merve; Bayram, Kazım; Kaya Özer, DeryaIntroduction and Hypothesis This study aimed to examine the relationships between perceived sports performance (PSP) and pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) and sleep quality, and to identify whether PFD and sleep quality serve as independent predictors of PSP. Methods A total of 95 female athletes from various competition levels (46.3% amateur, 46.3% professional, and 7.4% elite) (mean age 21.18 ± 4.51 years) were included in the study. Athletes’ PSP, PFD, and sleep quality were assessed using the Perceived Performance in Sports Scale (PPSS), Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory-20 (PFDI-20) with its subscales [Pelvic Organ Prolapse Distress Inventory-6 (POPDI-6), Colorectal-Anal Distress Inventory-8 (CRADI-8), and Urinary Distress Inventory-6 (UDI-6)], and Single-Item Sleep Quality Scale (SISQS), respectively. Pearson correlation analysis was used to examine relationships between PPSS, PFDI-20, and SISQS, while multiple linear regression determined the predictive power of independent variables on PSP. Results The PPSS total score correlated with PFDI-20 total (r = −0.239, p = 0.019) and POPDI-6 (r = −0.384, p < 0.001), while with SISQS scores (r = 0.212, p = 0.039). Psychological perception score correlated with POPDI-6 (r = −0.399, p < 0.001), PFDI-20 total (r = −0.353, p < 0.001), CRADI-8 (r = −0.205, p = 0.047), UDI-6 (r = −0.233, p = 0.023), and SISQS scores (r = 0.261, p = 0.011). Physical and tactical perception scores were linked to POPDI-6 score (r = −0.334, p = 0.001; r = −0.326, p = 0.001, respectively); tactical perception was also related to SISQS score (r = 0.242, p = 0.018). Environmental perception correlated with PFDI-20 total (r = −0.196, p = 0.046) and POPDI-6 scores (r = −0.299, p = 0.003). Significant regression models explained 7.3–17.5% of the variance, identifying POPDI-6 as the sole consistent independent predictor for overall PSP (β = −0.446, p = 0.003) and all subdimensions (p < 0.05), whereas SISQS did not emerge as a significant independent contributor in the regression models (p > 0.05). Conclusions Within the limits of the examined variables, pelvic organ prolapse symptoms emerged as a significant independent predictor for specific PSP domains, though the absolute explained variance remained modest (7.3–17.5%), while sleep quality was not a significant independent predictor. Rather than practice-ready guidelines, these cross-sectional findings suggest that future prospective and interventional research is warranted to explore whether integrating pelvic health screenings into training routines can meaningfully support athletes’ PSP, while carefully considering that the feasibility, confidentiality, and healthcare support for such screenings may vary across different sport participation and competition levels.Öğe Intra- and inter-session reliability of the MyotonPro in measuring the biomechanical and viscoelastic properties of the knee extensor and flexor muscles(14 May 2026) Seçer, Erhan; Bayram, Kazım; Kaya Özer, DeryaBackground The MyotonPro is a widely used, safe, and non-invasive digital device for assessing muscle biomechanical and viscoelastic properties. This study aimed to determine the intra- and inter-session reliability of the MyotonPro in measuring the biomechanical and viscoelastic properties of the knee extensor and flexor muscles. Methods Eighty-four young male recreational athletes, with a mean age of 21.42 ± 1.37 years, participated in a fourstage repeated-measure study. Both sessions followed the same protocol: rectus femoris (RF) and biceps femoris (BF) measurements were taken twice per side and averaged, with a 30-min interval between sets. Two different intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) models were used: ICC3,1 (two-way mixed effects, absolute agreement) for intra-session reliability and ICC2,1 (two-way random effects, absolute agreement) for inter-session reliability. Standard error of measurement (SEM) was calculated using SEM = SDpooled x √(1-ICC). The minimal detectable change (MDC95) was calculated using the formula MDC95 = 1.96 × √2 × SEM. Bland–Altman plots were generated to visually represent the agreement between the two sessions, complementing the ICC analysis. Results The MyotonPro demonstrated high to excellent intra-session reliability across all measured properties (tone, stiffness, elasticity, relaxation time, and creep) for both the RF (ICCs ≥ .95, ranging from .95 to .99; SEM: 0.01 to 6.14; MDC95: 0.04 to 17.03) and the BF (ICCs ≥ .97, ranging from .97 to .99; SEM: 0.02 to 5.27; MDC95: 0.05 to 14.62). The MyotonPro demonstrated excellent inter-session reliability across all measured properties for both the RF (ICCs ≥ .96, ranging from .96 to .99; SEM: 0.02 to 4.38; MDC95: 0.05 to 12.14) and the BF (ICCs ≥ .94, ranging from .94 to .99; SEM: 0.02 to 5.17; MDC95: 0.07 to 14.54). The Bland–Altman analysis confirmed near agreement for all measured properties across sessions 1 and 2 for both the RF and BF. The limits of agreement encompassed most data points, and the overall systematic mean bias was negligible, remaining close to zero. Conclusions This study establishes the MyotonPro as a highly reliable instrument for assessing muscle properties, evidenced by excellent intra-session and inter-session consistency across all measured biomechanical and viscoelastic properties. The negligible systematic bias indicates high temporal measurement stability, supporting the potential utility of myotonometry for monitoring changes in muscle mechanical properties in longitudinal assessments.Öğe Immediate effects of vibration vs. non-vibration foam rolling on biomechanical and viscoelastic properties of knee flexor and extensor muscles in young male recreational athletes: a randomized, controlled, cross-over study(16 Apr 2026) Seçer, Erhan; Bayram, Kazım; Kaya Özer, DeryaThis study examined the immediate effects of vibration (VFR) and non-vibration foam rolling (FR) on the biomechanical and viscoelastic properties of the knee flexor and extensor muscles. Thirteen young male recreational athletes (mean age: 21.46±1.45 years) completed three conditions: VFR, FR, and control conditions. Assessments were performed pre- and post-test using the MyotonPro. Regarding the knee flexors, no significant effects were observed for muscle tone, stiffness, elasticity, or relaxation time (p>0.05). Creep increased similarly in both VFR and FR groups (p=0.038). Regarding knee extensors, neither intervention affected muscle tone, elasticity, or relaxation time (p>0.05). Stiffness decreased in both groups, with VFR demonstrating greater efficacy compared to FR (p=0.002). Creep increased similarly in both the VFR and FR groups (p=0.016). Both interventions effectively enhanced the creep of knee flexor and extensor muscles and reduced knee extensor muscle stiffness, whereas VFR demonstrated a superior acute benefit in reducing extensor muscle stiffness.Öğe Fizyoterapide Nordik Yürüyüşünün Kronik Hastalıkların Yönetimi ve Rehabilitasyon Süreçlerindeki Rolü: Geleneksel Derleme(28.01.2026) Koku, Merve; Taşpınar, Betül; Taşpınar, FerruhNordik yürüyüşü, özel tasarlanmış batonlarla yapılan bir aerobik egzersiz türüdür. BACKGROUND: Aging is a process that includes progressive physiological changes. Grip strength is an important indicator of current health in the elderly. OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to examine the correlation between dominant-hand grip strength (HGS) and cognitive function, mid-upper arm circumference, muscle-bone mass, balance, mobility, and daily life activities in elderly individuals living in nursing homes and determine the effect rates of these factors on HGS. METHODS: Seventy-two elderly individuals aged over 65 who lived in a nursing home were included in the study. Dominant HGS and mid-upper forearm circumference were measured. Muscle and bone masses were measured with bioelectrical impedance analysis. Mid-upper arm circumference was measured using a non-elastic tape. HGS was measured using a hand dynamometer. Cognitive function was evaluated with the Standardized Mini-Mental Test (SMMT); mobility and balance were evaluated with the Timed Up and Go Test (TUGT) and Berg Balance Scale (BBS); the Katz Activities of Daily Living Scale (KATZ ADL) was used to evaluate daily life activities. RESULTS: There was a significant correlation between HGS and muscle and bone masses (p < 0.001). A significant correlation was found between HGS and TUGT, ADL (p = 0.001, p = 0.016). There was no significant correlation between HGS and BBS (p = 0.2). There was a correlation between HGS and SMMT at the statistical significance limit (p = 0.055). On HGS, the Body Mass Index had a 64.9% effect; the muscle mass had a 30.9% effect; the TUGT had a 27.7% effect. These parameters were found to explain 59.9% of the variance. CONCLUSION: As a global indicator of muscle strength, HGS can be used to predict age-related functional changes. Approaches to increase physical activity levels in elderly can be effective in reducing age-related negativities.Öğe Fizyoterapi Programı Ön Lisans Öğrencilerinde Mesleki Uygulama Dersinin Verimliliği: Kapadokya Üniversitesi Örneği(2021) Dilek Hande Esen; Kadirhan Doğan; Deniz Tuğyan Ayhan; Özsoy, OsmanMeslek Yüksekokullarında verilen mesleki uygulama dersi, mesleki beceri kazanmak, teorikte öğrenilenin pratiğe aktarılması ve mesleki iletişimi öğrenmek için gerekli ve yararlıdır.
