Compassionate Organizations in BANI Times

We live in what the futurist Jamais Cascio has termed as BANI times. It is an era characterized by brittleness, anxiety, nonlinearity, and incomprehensibility. These descriptors are not rhetorical abstractions but realities. Geopolitical crises from Ukraine to the Middle East and Sudan destabilize global supply chains and institutions of cooperation. Inequality continues to widen, with the richest 1% capturing an unacceptable portion of our common wealth. We are living through a planetary emergency, as repeatedly affirmed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change—even if we also see renewable energies and nature conservation rapidly gaining ground. The world demands nothing less than a wholesale transformation of the way we produce, consume, and organize societies.
