Özet
The combustion of aviation fuels with high stability and low emissions is of great importance among current studies. In particular, the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) instead of fossil fuels is valuable both economically and in terms of climate studies. The effect of fossil fuel use on the carbon footprint has accelerated the studies. The most commonly used of these fossil fuels in the military aviation field is known as JP8 (Jet Propellant 8). In this study, the combustion behavior of JP8 fuel used in military aviation was studied. In the study carried out in the thermo-acoustic model combustion chamber, Biogas was added as an alternative fuel to JP8. Tests were carried out up to 50 % JP8 50 % Biogas ratio by increasing the biogas addition according to the thermal power meeting ratio. In the study, JP8/Biogas mixture flames were subjected to external acoustic en forcements at different frequencies and dynamic pressure changes were recorded. The results showed that the addition of Biogas increased the stability of the JP8 flame under external acoustic enforcements. As a result of the Biogas addition, a decrease in both CO (Carbon Monoxide) and NO X (Nitrogen Oxide) emissions was detected up to 33 % Biogas ratio. The addition of biogas increased the combustion chamber exit temperatures up to 93 Kelvin. In addition, in this study, image processing of the flame was carried out with an open source program. As a result of image processing, it was determined that the addition of Biogas increased the flame length and thickness.
